Well fucking FINALLY!

February 6, 2008

The Evangelion remake has started to migrate out of Japan. First stop…Korea? Seriously? I mean, I know they’re close and all, but I have to think that we have a higher nerd population over here.

Okay, on second thought, no, I’m not surprised. Any nation that will make Starcraft its national sport is definitely fertile ground for an anime debut.

In any case, ANN has Eva’s American release set as February 22. I won’t have to live with the shakes for much longer. Hooray!

And Speaking of the New Evangelion Movie…

September 23, 2007

Somebody get some god damned torrents up already! I’m fucking dying over here! At this rate, GAINAX will to have the whole series done before we see frame one on this side of the ocean. I have seen episodes of anime that were subbed and ready to go within 12 hours of their first broadcast date. I have heard rumors of episodes being subbed and distributed even before they were aired. And yet, this movie is more than three weeks old, and there is still no sign of a torrent. What the fuck?

Buccaneers, I expect you to get cracking! If you don’t hurry up, ADV or Manga Entertainment is going to go public with a license agreement, and then we’ll all have to wait a good three or four months extra for them to do the dub and sell us the first of 3 increasingly special Special Editions at the low low price of our soul.

If anyone finds a torrent, please drop me a line in the comments.

Just Like Regular Coffee, But Now With More Angst.

September 23, 2007

In an marketing campaign to help promote the new Evangelion movie, a brand of canned coffee has plastered the likenesses of NERV personnel on their cans.

There are no words for how amazingly great that is. Really. Wow.

Evangelion Drops to #2 at Japanese Box Office

September 11, 2007

According to Anime News Network, who in turn say they got it from Kogyo Tsushinsha, the new Evangelion movie, Evangelion: 1.0 You Are [Not] Alone dropped from the #1 spot it took upon opening last weekend. Apparently it was displaced from its rightful spot at the top of the world by a movie called H..O (I think).

It’s a bit disturbing to see a movie I want to succeed so badly drop out of the lead in a single week, and I blame this directly on whoever in the distribution company made the decision to run the film on only 84 screens. 84 screens is tiny. If Japan was also tiny, I could understand. But it isn’t. It has almost 130 million people.

I can only hope that somebody is busting their ass to get more copies of the film out as soon as possible. Somebody else than the person who made the 84 screen call in the first place, I mean. That person needs to be fired.

Evangelion’s New Movie Whoops All Comers.

September 5, 2007

Opening on a mere 84 screens, the new Neon Genesis Evangelion movie  took the top spot at the Japanese box office this past weekend, with one theater alone selling 12,500 tickets over two days. Given the universe’s penchant for giving us good things and then taking them away, I find this very encouraging as massive financial success should keep this project from sputtering out before all 4 movies are complete.

According to ANN, the end of the movie featured a “next episode preview” which included several new Eva designs for units 04, 05, and 06 and an unnamed new female character with brown hair and glasses. I suppose with Kaworu showing up quite early in this telling of the story, rather than at the tail end, the writers felt that they should add another girl pilot to keep the pilot’s roster heavily tilted towards the X chromosome. Or something. Maybe they gave Asuka a new character design. If that is the case, I think I will kill somebody.
